Website Graphics
First
A Warning ! The big stock photo companies Getty Corbis et al are
threatening to sue 1000s of small companies and even private individuals
for unlicenced useage . We suggest in all cases that
if you copy any graphics from any media source , even from so called
"free websites", that you always check the origin , and
read the small print on copright / legal and pay the licence fee
(if any) or get written confirmation from the copyright owner for
the useage, or you could end up with a bill / threat to sue . It
is only recently that these large companies have decided to be so
agressive , and many webmasters are saying they are acting over
the top in demanding whjat looks like extortionate amounts (multiples
of the actual price) , a simple cease and desist letter might be
better for "first offender", small sites that have made
a mistake or did not understand the small print. There is a very
interesting article in the Sitepoint
forum , and there are countless other threads on other webmaster
forums talking about this.
About Our Graphics
Most logos we create
are created with graphics editors from scratch , the rest are Royalty
free , whereby we pay a one time licence fee via subscription to
Animation Factory , a company owned by Jupiter Images . So if we
are creating a site for a local brewery
we would select perhaps the .gif file opposite , from Animation
Factory , there's a library of over 35000 animations , and they
also have tiled backgrounds as well as a plethorta of sitepoint
templates. The good news is all the images are Royalty FREE . Please
note: Although we are legally allowed to create pages with these
graphics for our customers , the customer is not allowed to copy
or use any of the graphics we supply , ie: the graphics cannot be
used for any purpose than displaying on the website we supply.
We also use Xara Menu Maker for building the menu
buttons / tabs etc where required .
...And various graphics editors for manipulating and
optimising web graphics.
Where a client has their own photograph or images
these can easily be added to their site , simply email them through
to us . (Any images supplied are the customer's responsibilty with
regard to intellectual property rights).
Premium Images
We rarely find the need , but if a client insists
on high quality highest resolution stock photos then istockphoto
are particularly good and considerably cheaper than Corbis or Getty,
and the quality can be on a par. The other option is to get the
digital camera out and start taking snaps , it doesn't cost a penny
that way, and you can always sell them on to the stock photo companies!
