Website Menus

Well planned menus help your visitors navigate your site with ease , good planning and arrangment of navigation elements is essential if your site is to be user-friendly.

This site (and most sites i create) are a combination of graphic buttons like the tab graphic above , i also use text links , such as those on the left hand side . A tip - if you have a scripting language such as php , including these sections in their own include file , and including the file in each page of your site makes adding new links or updating a lot easier and faster . That way you only have to change the section in the 1 include file , instead of changing each page of your site - especially important if you have a large site .

I have found Xara MenuMaker which comes with a Dreamweaver Add-On a pretty good webmaster tool for automatically generating site menus as it has a WYSIWYG interface allowing you to effortlessly configure a menu matching your new (or existing site) . It comes packed with a range of themed buttons and you have complete control over the colours fonts etc. The downside of using these buttons is they are not search engine friendly as they are generated by javascript, so for all important internet web pages i ensure i use text links to ensure they get crawled .
